 107 Years of Competition  (1898 - 2006)

- 1898 had 9 entries.  The first N.C.A Champion was M. J. Wilcox of Lincoln.

- 1899 there were 8 players.

- 1900 to 1919 saw an average of 17 players.  (1913 & 1914 -21 each)

- 1920's averaged 26 players (1925 & 1926 had 32 each year)

- 1930's 21 players (1938 had 30 players)

- 1940's 19 players (1949 had 28 players)

- 1950's 20 players (1959 had 25 players)

- 1960's 17 players (1960 had 22 players)

- 1970's 12 players (1978 had 17 players)

- 1980's 17 players (1980 had 22 players)

- 1990's 7 players (1990 had 10 players)

- 2000 to 2005  5 players (2000 had 7 players)

- 2006 to 2009  (12 players averages)

- 1898 to 2005 had  1732 entries by 107 years = 16 per year.

 - 1925 & 1926 were the peak years and had 32 entries each.

- the last elected officers were in 1973.

- the power of office was given to Lloyd Mills in 1974.  He ran the whole thing for 17 years.  He then passed on the power of control to John Pestal in 1990.  Lloyd Mills passed away that same year after he won his 38th State Championship.
